I LOVE learning how to make new things and learning about different foods from different cultures! I have eaten tamales from friends that I have worked with in the past, but never had a clue how to make them. Well that has now changed. We had some friends that stayed with us over conference weekend which made for the perfect time to learn how to make new food! Especially since Tamales are a 2 day process. Our friends learned how to make them from their friend's Mexican grandmother (Just knowing this tells you it WILL be a great recipe- and it was)! Saturday we cooked the 2 pork roasts and made the chili marinade to put all the pulled pork into. Then Sunday we soaked the corn husks and rolled the masa into balls and used a tortilla maker to flatten them out, added pork, rolled them up, then finally steamed them! I would have to say they are the BEST when they are freshly steamed! It was definitely a new food for us and we can now say we have made tamales. I don't know that we would ever spend the time to make them again, but it is cool to say we have done it and that they turned out awesome!!
